Ferrite magnets - the ceramic permanent magnets

Three rows of grey and black ferrite magnets in a round shape for office and household

A ferrite magnet, which has a permanent magnetic attraction, proves to be an ideal fastener in many situations. Ferrite magnets (also known as ferrite magnets) are characterised by many advantages. Especially in comparison to neodymium magnets, permanent magnets are much cheaper and more durable. This is why they are often preferred. If you also need ferrite magnets, you can benefit from our extensive range of permanent magnets. Take your time to look around and discover the many different magnets in our online shop.

What are ferrite magnets

Ferrite magnets are currently the cheapest and most widely used magnets on the market. They are characterised by their particularly simple application and special magnetic force. As they can be used in a wide range of applications, hard ferrite magnets are also a real all-rounder. They have many advantages to offer. Although hard ferrite magnets are weaker than neodymium magnets (magnetic force), they can be heated up to 250 °C, for example. Ferrite magnets are therefore extremely temperature-resistant. They are also rust-resistant, making them suitable for many different outdoor applications. The magnets are even so hard-wearing that they are not even affected by oils, solvents or acidic substances. The MAUL online shop also offers different sizes of ferrite magnets. So nothing stands in the way of using ferrite magnets outdoors.

Ferrite magnets: What material are they made of?

A distinction is made between two groups of ferrite magnets. There are metallic and ceramic permanent magnets. The ceramic material is hard ferrite. The metallic materials essentially consist of a combination of aluminium, cobalt and nickel or a combination of samarium and cobalt. All materials are available in a compact form and also in a plastic-bonded form. Various materials are added to change the properties. Magnets made of hard ferrite are characterised by their cost-effective features. They are the most widely used permanent magnets.

Ferrite magnets: The different types of magnets

Ferrite magnets are divided into two main categories as follows:

Isotropic ferrite magnets

Isotropic ferrite magnets are the significantly weaker form of this type of magnet. These magnets are produced dry using a pressing process. Due to this production process, however, isotropic magnets also offer the advantage that they can be magnetised in any direction and the magnetisation is very high.

Anisotropic ferrite magnets

Anisotropic magnets, on the other hand, are produced "wet". This means that they are produced wet in an injection mould. This is precisely why they are significantly stronger in terms of adhesive force. However, the influence of the applied magnetic field also directly determines a preferred direction.

Ferrite magnets: Which permanent magnets are available?

We offer a wide variety of permanent magnets. Not only can the magnets impress with their special properties - there is also a suitable model for every application.

Small block magnets are particularly popular due to their compact dimensions. Even if block magnets don't look like it, the small permanent magnets can carry up to 160 grams of weight. The shape is of course particularly practical. Block magnets are suitable when a large magnetic contact surface is required. Ring magnets are the right choice if the circular version is not suitable. The hard ferrite magnets in ring shape can hold up to 16 kilograms of weight. Disc magnets are definitely the magnets that are used the most. These magnets also remain visible when in use.

Ferrite magnets: What are they used for?

Hard ferrite magnets are real all-rounders. Thanks to their high load capacity, there are virtually no limits to their applications. High-quality permanent magnets are used wherever other magnets can no longer be used. They have no problem with permanent exposure to moisture or other difficulties. Made of rust-free material, they defy the weather where coatings of other magnets fail. The disc magnets can be used anywhere and are designed for both indoor and outdoor use. Basically, there is hardly any area that can do without permanent magnets. Ferrite magnets can be found in industry, science, trade, schools, offices and also in the hobby and household sector. This is certainly due to the fact that these magnets impress with their permanent and reliable adhesive force. They can always be used when it comes to a fastening that is meant to last forever. However, ferrite magnets are also used in other areas. It is used in various motors. For example, in loudspeakers, microphones or generators.
