Flipchart – for presentations, lectures and meetings
Flipcharts have been used in offices, workshops and conferences for many years. They can be used for a range of presentation and moderation situations. Models that are height-adjustable and equipped with wheels can offer additional flexibility when used in different rooms. Depending on the model, the combination of paper and a magnetic board surface, possibly supplemented by side arms, provides different options for presentation and visualisation. On models with side arms, written sheets can be displayed while the central board remains available for further notes or work with magnets and moderation cards. MAUL offers flipcharts in different designs and configurations. Discover models with magnetic board surfaces for different applications.
A flipchart is a practical tool for presentations, lectures, talks and meetings. Flipcharts are used in many organisations for presentations, meetings and workshops and offer different possible applications depending on the design. Prepared data or diagrams can be displayed, and flipcharts can also be used for notes and collaborative work during meetings. Flipcharts can be used in different environments. Our range includes different models for various requirements.
What is a flipchart?
Flipcharts generally consist of two main components: a board and a stand or tripod. Depending on the model, the board may feature a writable surface that can be used with suitable markers. Many models also have a magnetic surface, allowing suitable magnets to be used. Notes, pictures or graphics can therefore be attached to the board. The construction varies depending on the model. Many versions have fittings at the top for attaching flipchart paper pads. Flipchart pads are available in different designs. On suitably perforated pads, individual sheets can be detached. The paper is available, for example, in gridded or plain versions. Depending on the model, flipcharts may also include a tray for markers, magnets or other accessories. Flipchart paper is available in different formats and designs, including sizes based on DIN A1, DIN B1 or DIN A0.

When selecting a flipchart, it is useful to compare different models and features. One area of difference is the stand. Depending on the version, a flipchart may use a tripod, circular base, star base or another support system. Many models are height-adjustable. Height adjustment can make it easier to adapt the board to different situations. Flipcharts with adjustable board angles or additional side arms are also available.
Some models are equipped with wheels, allowing them to be moved more easily within suitable rooms. A mobile flipchart with wheels may be suitable when the board is used in different locations. For primarily stationary use, fixed models may also be suitable. These can feature, for example, a circular base, tripod or star base. Foldable models can be folded for transport or storage. Rotating flipcharts can provide additional options depending on the model and may, for example, be used in portrait or landscape orientation. Our range includes different flipcharts for offices, universities and schools.
In addition to traditional flipcharts with wheels, circular bases, tripods or star bases, other designs are available. Some flipchart boards can be used on both sides. Depending on the model, the reverse side may feature cork or felt and can be used as a pinboard. Documents or notes can then be attached and presentations prepared in advance. This provides an additional surface for attaching materials. Pull-out or folding side arms can provide additional space for previously written sheets. Depending on the model, sheets can be attached during a presentation using suitable magnets. The number of sheets that can be displayed at the same time depends on the specific model.
Door-mounted flipcharts are another available option. They can, for example, be used for group work and attached to suitable doors. The flipchart is mounted to the door according to its intended design and therefore does not require additional floor space. Depending on the model, it may be moved between suitable rooms. Whether the door can still be closed while the flipchart is attached depends on the product, door and correct installation; please refer to the respective product information.
Applications – what types of presentations can a flipchart be used for?
Flipcharts are frequently used in offices, conference rooms, meeting rooms, schools and universities. They can be used in particular for lectures, presentations and collaborative working processes, including:
- school presentations or lectures
- presentations and planning
- exam preparation or group work
- visualising to-do lists
- brainstorming or mind maps
One possible advantage compared with purely writable board surfaces is that written paper sheets can be retained and reused later. During presentations or lectures, content can also be supplemented or corrected. Digital presentations may require different technical equipment depending on the application. Many flipcharts can be used without permanent installation. No electricity is generally required for the basic use of a flipchart.
How are flipcharts written on?
Suitable markers are available for writable flipchart surfaces. It is important to use markers designed for the respective surface. Permanent markers may be difficult or impossible to remove completely, depending on the surface.
Flipchart accessories
Different accessories are available for presentations. These include suitable markers for writable surfaces, which can be used for notes and visualising processes. Typical accessories also include flipchart paper. Flipchart pads are available in different sizes, designs and sheet quantities. Depending on the product, they may feature holes or other attachment systems at the top. Paper is available in lined, gridded or plain versions. Special paper rolls for flipcharts are also available. Other accessories may include magnets, flipchart films and additional presentation materials.
