Workplace lights - everything always in view

In the office, home office or workshop, suitable lighting can support comfortable visual and working conditions. Daylight is not always available in sufficient amounts, so additional artificial light sources may be used. A suitable workplace lamp or LED lamp can complement the existing lighting. Different types of lamps are available for different working environments, including desk lamps and machine lights. System and workplace lamps can complement the lighting of various work areas.
Depending on the model, LED workplace lamps are available with different adjustment and equipment features. Whether used at a desk, workbench or drawing board, a suitable lamp can provide lighting adapted to the respective workplace and offer different operating options.
Lighting as a factor in workplace design
If a work surface, screen or workbench is not sufficiently illuminated, this can affect visual conditions and working comfort. Unsuitable lighting may be perceived as uncomfortable or visually demanding. Under unfavourable visual conditions, a person may also change their working position in order to see details more clearly.
Prolonged unfavourable lighting conditions may lead to discomfort. Suitable lighting is therefore an important part of workplace design.
Using workplace lamps appropriately
A workplace can be either too dark or too brightly lit. Even in a room with large windows, a desk may receive less daylight because of shadows or its distance from the window. Depending on the situation, an additional desk lamp can supplement the lighting.
Excessive brightness or unfavourable glare can also be perceived as uncomfortable. Brightness, positioning and alignment of the workplace lamp should therefore be adapted to the respective visual task. Mounting can also play an important role. Depending on their design, some system lamps can also be positioned in narrow or limited spaces.
A workplace lamp should be positioned so that direct glare is reduced as much as possible. Depending on the task, side lighting may be useful for reducing glare and unwanted shadows. For detailed work, additional directional lighting can be helpful. Special workplace lamps with long or flexible arms allow individual positioning depending on the model.
Which lamp for which workplace?
LED light sources may be a suitable option depending on the workplace and requirements. Light colour, brightness, energy consumption and service life vary by model. Information on service life and energy consumption can be found in the respective product specifications.
Desk lamps are available in different designs and colours. Depending on their appearance, simple models can be integrated into different room concepts. Depending on the model, various features may be available, such as:
- Adjustable lamp head
- Extendable lamp arm
- Dimmable light levels
- Base
In workshops, sensor-controlled workplace lamps may offer a practical operating option depending on the task. On appropriately equipped models, the lamp can be switched on or off, for example, by moving a hand near the sensor. Some models also include a dimming function.
LED desk lamp
Depending on the model, an LED desk lamp is connected to the power supply via a cable. Cable length and adjustment options vary by design and should suit the intended workplace. Desk lamps are available in different designs and colours and can be used both as an additional light source and as a decorative element. Depending on the requirements, a desk lamp may be sufficient for writing tasks or as supplementary lighting at a computer workstation.
Clamp lamp
Clamp lamps can be used flexibly in laboratories, workshops, industrial environments or at drawing boards. They do not require a base and, depending on the clamp mechanism and surface, can be attached to suitable table edges, worktops or other compatible surfaces. Magnifying lamps can be used at drawing boards or for detailed work. This allows the lighting to be adapted to different work tasks. Depending on the design, clamp lamps can be positioned either in a fixed location or flexibly within the workplace. Some models are equipped with a magnifying lens. Depending on the design, attachment is provided by a screw clamp or spring-loaded clamping mechanism.
Workplace lamps with additional equipment for specialised work areas
Depending on the work area, additional functions or specialised lamp types may be required. In laboratories, workshops or technical workplaces, for example, the following types of lamps may be considered:
- Magnifying lamp
- Helmet light
- Spot light
- Machine light
- Cold light lamp
