What is a letter scale?

What functions must the letter scales offer?

Apart from this, the calibrated letter scales should also impress in terms of operation. The display plays a decisive role here. What load capacity does a letter scale have?

An important criterion for a letter scale is the maximum load capacity. This is also often referred to as the weighing range. The weighing range provides information about how flexibly you can use the scale. There are letter scales that are not only limited to weighing light letters, but can also weigh heavier items without any problems. Conventional letter scales carry a maximum of 5 kilograms. This means that you can use them to weigh both letters and parcels. However, the maximum weight of 5 kilograms must not be exceeded. Occasionally there are even models that can carry up to 25 kilograms - but this is rather rare and should therefore be checked carefully. If the scales in the office are only used for letters, a load capacity of 1 to 2 kilograms is perfectly adequate.

Which letter scale is the right one?

Before you buy a letter scale, you should be clear about what the scale is needed for and what weighing range it has to serve. If you mainly weigh letters in your office, then a scale with a 1g division is absolutely sufficient. However, if you also weigh other goods, such as precious metals, the situation is different. In these cases, use the so-called precision scales, as they offer a division of 0.01g. If the letter scale is to be used as an all-rounder, the criteria are also slightly different. For example, if you want a scale that can be used not only in the home office but also in the kitchen, you need to look out for additional functions. It also makes sense if the weighing plate has slightly higher rims so that you can also weigh flour or liquids.

There are drums and metal bars under the weighing disc, which generate an electronic resistance as soon as weight is applied. The battery-operated scales naturally require a power source. In the vast majority of cases, the scales work with batteries. However, there are also models that are powered by a mains adapter. The advantage of scales with a mains adapter is that the cost of new batteries is avoided. However, the scales are of course somewhat limited in terms of mobility. Battery-powered devices are therefore recommended, as they are easy to transport and can be used anywhere.

Solar-powered letter scales

The solar-powered letter scale is a real innovation. Manufacturers are increasingly focussing on this technology and banning batteries from their scales. The letter scales are equipped with solar cells, which are usually located above the display. Solar energy is charged here. This type of scale combines all the advantages of a digital and mechanical letter scale. However, they are not yet available from many brands and manufacturers.
